The 30th anniversary of the Pac Man computer game was celebrated by Google in style: The complete Google logo had been turned into a Pac Mac application. This game was played by so many users, that Google decided to give it a permanent home: www.google.com/pacman.

While it has been published on the Google blog, it is probably not yet widely know. As Google states it: “PAC-MAN rules!“. While I can’t completely understand how you can be overwhelmed, but not surprised, that is what happened to Google:

“We’ve been overwhelmed — but not surprised :) — by the success of our 30th anniversary PAC-MAN doodle. Due to popular demand, we’re making the game permanently available at www.google.com/pacman.”

Even though Pac Man is fairly old, it is still available for all popular gaming platforms, like Nintendo DS, GameCube, Xbox, Game Boy Advance, Nintendo 64 and PS2 Play Station 2. It’s sold under the label NAMCO Museum.

Namco also offers all kinds of Pac Man games: Pac-Man Power Pack and Pac Man World 2, Pac-Man Collection, Pac Man World Rally, PS2 Pac-Man World 3, Pac-Man World, Pac Man World 3, Pac Man Bundle (Pac-Man, Pac-Man World 2), Ms Pacman Maze Madness and Pacman World and Pac Man World Rally to name just a few.

There are even fake Pac Man games out there: Pac Man Fever and Ms. Pac-Man Pac-Man. Maybe not really fake, but at least they are not offered by Namco, but some other me-too-company.

Too bad that the “insert coin” button no longer starts the game at that website.

I suggest that you try again. It works on my end. Just go to http://www.Google.com/pacman and hit the “insert coin” button and the game starts immediately.
